Music Inspires Learning

At Capoeira Luanda Sand Diego and in capoeira in general, music is present in every class! There is no capoeira without music, and even if there is no actual music, the capoeirista should be imagining a rhythm, a cadence, to perform the art.

Music plays an important role in every child’s life and in their developmental process. Beginning at birth, music stimulates the brain and provides a platform for listening, language and creativity; research shows that children who play an instrument excel academically, including scoring higher on standardized tests.

Studies have also shown that playing a musical instrument can measurably enhance a child’s intellectual development. It engages imagination and creativity; promotes concentration and memory retention; develops abstract reasoning skills; sharpens problem-solving skills and emotional development; boosts self-confidence; builds self-discipline; and makes learning fun. Physically, it sharpens hand-eye coordination; hones a sense of rhythm; stimulates social interaction and encourages self-expression; builds relationships with peers; and brings people together.

Kids class is about the kids, their individual development and the conscious and great citizens we can help them to become.

When teaching kids, I focus on using capoeira as the wonderful tool it is to educate and discipline body and mind, to reach goals, and to move on to new objectives.

At Capoeira Luanda San Diego with Instructor Massapê, each class will engage your kids in culture, martial arts, music, dance, acrobatics, Portuguese and social skills.

Together, we create a fun and safe environment for the child to develop physically, socially, mentally, and emotionally!

Our broader goal is to assist the child in better preparation for life and the challenges that will come, while still having fun along the way!

Capoeira for Kids Class

3 to 5 years old

& their developmental process...

It is my strong belief that Capoeira classes for ages 3 to 5 - more specifically - are not strictly about teaching them capoeira. At this age, it is far more about using capoeira as a tool to stimulate the kids' development as a person and citizen immersed in society.

The focus for 3 to 5 year old students is the skills and abilities developed for their stage of life to understand themselves, others, and the world around them.

Using rich and numerous capoeira tools, I can support and stimulate a successful developmental process for the child. This means that, together, we create a safe, reliable, and increasingly more conscious environment for their exploration of the world. We work on creating awareness around them and inside their little body and minds.

At this age – moreso at 3 and less so at 5 – children are experiencing and intensively exploring their inner world. Preschool children are learning to use and test their bodies. The preschool years are a time for learning what they can do individually without invading the space of others.

Locomotion plays a large role in motor/skill development, and includes such activities as moving the body through space, walking, running, hopping, jumping, rolling, dancing, climbing, and leaping. Preschoolers use these activities to investigate and explore the relationships among themselves, space, objects in space, and other kids. Below are some more of the aspects that kids of this age are developing and whose growth I will be directly supporting and stimulating in classes with games, exercises and increasing communication, starting with 3 year olds and on.

Language and Thinking Development

Strongly stimulated through natural communications process every class. Each explanation increases in complexity, as well as the exercises and games. In general, three year olds understand most of what is said, and 75 percent of their speech is understandable. They speak in complete sentences of three to five words, they can match pictures to objects, they learn mostly by doing. Through the senses, they understand concepts of "now," "soon," and "later," and are about to begin recognition of cause-and-effect relationships.

Social and Emotional Development.

We work lot with cause and effect. Here at the Capoeira Luanda Kids Class, we learn that friends and respect for each other are fundamental for a happy life!

Kids & Adults Capoeira Classes Routines...

Kids & Adults Capoeira Classes Routines. A regular capoeira kids class, as well as an adult class, includes: stretching, warm up, practice of the basic dance steps of capoeira, dodge movements, kicks, acrobatics, music (playing instruments and singing), and also culture with stories, words and songs in Portuguese, and lots of simple and fun educational games. There are positive challenges for all ages, and it's all in the same class! As you can see, capoeira is a full package for kids and adults – naturally - including many subjects in one class, and for the cost of one class only!
